|How one man is viewed by the media in three different countries |
He is a fashion icon, the husband to Posh Spice of the Spice Girls and lest anyone forgets, he is a professional cyber monday canada goose jackets football (or as most people in Australia like to refer to tiffany and co uk it, soccer) player who has played for England over a 100 times.
While scouring through the internet on articles about Beckham retirement, I noticed something rather interesting: the media in different countries have significantly differing depths and views when discussing this one man.
In Australia, he is viewed primarily as a footballer. There was hardly any interest in his retirement, with most major news agencies such as The Herald Sun choosing to use articles from other international news agencies such as The Associate Press (AP) and adding some pictures (such as of his visit to Sydney in 2010) to make it more "Aussie" related when breaking the news.
In the US, he is cyber monday canada goose viewed as more of a celebrity and less of a footballer. CNN had Ellis Cashmore, give an interesting take on how he led to the rise of the Metrosexual (although their coverage on the initial news of his retirement left much to be desired). The LA times had a brilliant piece comparing his status as a celebrity to his status as a footballer.
In England, he transcends all that. He is undoubtedly, an icon. Major news agencies in England considered his retirement to be headline worthy news. The Mirror had a minute by minute account when his retirement was announced; the tiffany jewellery uk BBC had his career done up in statistics and numbers; The Daily Mail made it a point to highlight that they had the world exclusive. In the last week alone, there was still extensive coverage on him ranging from , showing how immense his influence is.
This clearly shows that even in three countries with similar cultural values, their views can be so vastly different.
I wonder then, how is he viewed in countries such as those in Asia? Would there be even more of a contrast?
What about how an issue (such as Kevin Rudd comment on gay marriage) would be discussed internationally?
I believe what can be taken away from all that are themes and issues for all journalists to take into consideration when writing an article.
Perhaps for some topics, they can even consider whether to include elements that would appeal tiffany black friday to a more international audience for them to remain relevant across different countries.
After all, are Transnationalism and the Global Village not the things of the current age?
The English (Irish Footballer Robbie Keane who spent many years plying his trade in the top division of English football), the American (Prominent American Footballer Landon Donavan) and the Australian (Top Socceroos player Tim Cahill) view on David Becham reflected in one video.
