|Spurs rout Thunder in Game 5 |
SAN ANTONIO They're singing in San Antonio again.
One week after San cheap tiffany jewelry uk Antonio Spurs fans bellowed Sweet Caroline for their beloved team and these Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder looked destined to be such a tiffany & co one sided affair, the latest out of nowhere turn of events had them chanting "Ole, ole, ole" by the time the third quarter of San Antonio's 117 89 Game 5 win came to a close.
After so much justifiable talk about how the return of Thunder forward Serge Ibaka might mean doom for the reigning Western Conference champions, who were throttled those past two games, the Spurs did what they so often couldn't in recent years when both teams were in full force: score at will and play the kind of defense they're accustomed to. After shooting a shade below 40% in each of the past two games, they shot 51.3% from the field and buried 13 of 26 three pointers.
"This is the craziest series I've ever been involved in," Spurs legend Tim Duncan said.
The Thunder, who averaged 105.5 points in the previous two games and benefited so greatly canada goose parka from Ibaka's two way talents and the magical way they mix with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, were tiffany and co australia contained to 43.2% shooting and only hit six of 24 from beyond the arc. Ibaka, who had been deemed out for the playoffs with his calf strain only to return and make such a huge impact in the Thunder's Game 3 and Game 4 wins, had just six points (three of 10 shooting), two rebounds and two blocks in 27 minutes.
The Spurs, like only they can, had seven players score nine points or more and were led by Duncan's 22 and Manu Ginobili's 19.
"We gave them everything they wanted," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "They got the dribble drive, they got the 3 point line, and they got to the free throw line."
The first half was like a full game in and of itself, with the Spurs' much improved offense shooting 61.0% from the field and San Antonio overcoming the force of nature known as Westbrook to lead 65 55. His first quarter dunk that put Oklahoma City up 26 19 was a special kind of slam, one in which Westbrook cocked his right arm nearly a foot behind his head and dropped the most hellish of hammers.
The knee issues that once compromised his canada goose talents were, much like Kawhi Leonard on the play, behind him as he dribbled left through the lane and surged toward the rim. Spurs big man Tiago Splitter was wise to enjoy his front row seat rather than make the ill fated choice to contest, but the rim wasn't so lucky. It was still shaking along with the backboard long after he was gone, but the one transcendent play does not a game make.
"Our shots weren't falling for us," Durant said. "We've got to stay aggressive and we've got to get stops. When we can't make a shot, we've got to play defense, and we didn't tonight."
Ginobili countered quickly with a three pointer, and Patty Mills and Danny Green would convert two more not long after. Reggie Jackson's five for five first quarter, not to mention Westbrook's dunk, weren't enough to keep the early edge as the Spurs tied it up 32 32 before the first break. San Antonio endured the early deficit despite another awful start from Parker, who missed four of his first five shots before starting to turn his game around in the second quarter.
"I have no clue, honestly," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of the disparity. "I think every game, it's a different animal. It really is. We talk tiffany and co uk to our team about that all the time. You have no clue what's going to happen, how a team is going to come out, whether they're going to be lethargic or hold the ball, get 50 50 balls or don't get 50 50 balls."
